Information About Liposuction Procedures on Long Island, NY.
Liposuction, or liposculpture, is a minimally invasive procedure that helps to improve and sculpt the contour of your body. Today, it is one of the most popular body contouring procedures. Liposculpture is a great way to remove stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to both diet and exercise. Even if you diet and exercise regularly, there may still be areas of stubborn fat that are resistant to your efforts. Liposuction can remove these targeted fat deposits while sculpting out other areas as well, for proportionate results.
The best results are dependent on factors such as overall health and the skin tone of the patient. We often pair this procedure with other cosmetic procedures such as breast augmentations, tummy tucks, body lifts, mommy makeovers, and abdominoplasty.
Liposuction, and other body contouring procedures, do not serve as alternatives for weight loss.
Our board-certified plastic surgeons perform liposuction using a long metal tube called a cannula or cannula wand. We insert it into the treatment area through small incisions, to loosen and suck out unwanted fat cell deposits. We then will use a vacuum attachment on the cannula to suction out the unwanted fat and tissue.
This process will enable our surgeons to sculpt and contour the treatment area while removing the fat at the same time.
We will perform the procedure using either local or general anesthesia. During your consultation, we will discuss and determine which anesthesia would be best for you.
Most patients need about a week to recover from liposuction. Usually, they need to wear a compression garment over the treatment area, to help control swelling. In some cases, we insert small tubes to help drain excess blood and fluids from the treated areas. We remove these drainage tubes during your first follow-up visit.
After the removal of fat deposits, some patients experience temporary numbness or soreness in the area. We will prescribe appropriate medication to help patients feel more comfortable during their recovery.
Men and women who are dealing with excess and stubborn fat deposits may be good candidates for a liposuction procedure. Ideal candidates should be relatively healthy and have a positive outlook on their surgery with realistic expectations. Patients who are within 30% of their ideal body weight will benefit the most from liposculpture.
To determine if liposuction is the right choice for you, schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons. We will listen to your goals and help to develop a unique approach, for the best possible results.
