Eyelid Surgery Patient Testimonial Video of female patient in her late fifties discussing her eyelid surgery
Every year, 100,000 men and women undergo a blepharoplasty, or an eye lift, to improve the way they look. Droopy upper eyelids are most often the result of the excess eyelid skin and can make you look sadder, more tired, or even older than you really are.
Lower eyelids, on the other hand, become puffy over time, and under-eye bags can develop as a result of age-induced fat buildups and prolapses.
Dr. Jacono is world-renowned as an eyelid lift surgeon and is based in New York City, but if you’re searching for a “blepharoplasty near me”, know that many people come from far away to have Dr. Jacono’s skills applied to their face. Blepharoplasty surgery isn’t common everywhere, and to find someone who is truly skilled at eye lid lifts is remarkable. If you’re serious about it, then visiting New York Facial Plastic Surgery is a wise choice.
Although there are many ways to correct these issues, eyelid lifts provide the most direct and consistent results.

The short answer is yes. Blepharoplasty is the clinical term for an eye lift. Upper and lower blepharoplasties address the areas of fat, skin, and muscle above and below the eye, respectively.
Eye Lift Patient 1: This patient had an upper and lower eyelid lift to remove her hanging skin and reposition her under-eye fat bags. She had no surface eyelid wrinkles and did not require a skin peel or laser resurfacing.
During upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Jacono first marks every natural line and crease on the lids in order to keep the incisions as undetectable as possible. Once the incisions are made, he removes precise amounts of fat, muscle, and loose skin, all of which contribute to droopiness.
During lower eyelift surgery, Dr. Jacono makes an incision in an inconspicuous location just a few millimeters below the lash line and along with the smile creases of the lower eyelid. He then removes precise amounts of fat, muscle, and skin tissue.
He uses extremely fine sutures to close the incision and minimize the visibility of any scarring. In some cases, Dr. Jacono will not remove orbital fat, but tactfully move it into deeper grooves and hollows beneath the eye. This is called a fat transposition lower eyelid lift.
Although eyelid surgery requires incisions on a very sensitive part of the face, the procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and, best of all, not painful. Typically, Dr. Jacono performs blepharoplasties using local anesthesia, a series of numbing injections that minimize sensation in and around the surgical area.
Sometimes, he uses twilight anesthesia, or propofol, to induce sedation; propofol is the same intravenous solution used for routine colonoscopies. Dr. Jacono very rarely uses general anesthesia, as it can make recovery longer and more difficult.
Hooded eyelids are caused by a number of factors. As we age, the levator muscle, which holds up the eyelids, begins to stretch, and in turn, causes the eyelids to slowly fall. Additionally, our skin loses its youthful firmness and becomes susceptible to gravity’s pull. This causes wrinkling and further drooping.
Younger people can have hooded eyelids, though the causes are usually different. Some people are genetically predisposed to have drooping skin, while others experience physical trauma that causes sagging.
Generally speaking, an upper blepharoplasty’s results will last between 10 and 15 years before the area naturally begins to sag again. A lower blepharoplasty’s results, on the other hand, will last a lifetime, as the changes are mostly derived from the removal and repositioning of excess fat and skin tissue.
Unlike some other cosmetic procedures, upper and lower blepharoplasty recovery is quick and easy. Upper eyelid lift bruising resolves within 4 days, at which point camouflaging makeup can be used to get back to work. Lower eyelid lift bruising lasts slightly longer, between 7 and 10 days.
Before surgery, Dr. Jacono conducts a complete physical examination and prescribes vitamin supplementation and homeopathic therapies to speed up post-surgical healing. Research also shows that these improve ultimate results.
Make sure you follow all of Dr. Jacono’s post-op instructions regarding things like eye drops and ask if you should wear contact lenses.
